Christchurch Coastal Pathway – Ferrymead

coastal-walkway-04.jpgThe Christchurch Coastal Pathway is being developed as a 6.5 km, international-standard coastal pathway from Ferrymead to Sumner. We walked (and scooted) from the Mt Pleasant Yacht Club car park, along the Coastal Pathway, up to where Main Road meets Beachville Road. It took us about an hour to do this stretch there and back! With more enthusiastic walkers you could try walking back around the estuary (McCormack’s Bay Road). After this breath of fresh air, you could go on to Sumner (Cave Rock) or Brownlee Reserve (Clifton Terrace).

The path is smooth and wide and well-used by walkers, cyclists, and sightseers. It can be windy on the path and you need to watch out for cyclists coming up behind you. Note that the walk currently ends at Beachville Road and the rest of the path is due to be completed in 2017.

There is a picnic table, toilet, and drinking fountain at the Yacht Club car park.

We did this walk in July 2016 (winter).
