Ouruhia Reserve is a traditional kiwi domain that has it all! There’s all the space you could possibly need for family cricket, tennis courts*, a basketball hoop, and a playground. (*no nets when we visited!)
The playground was updated in 2015 and has a very cool spinning climbing frame, and a flying fox. Surrounding the playground is a track suitable for scooters or bikes.
There’s a BBQ under cover, which a local assures us is loaded with gas and good to go. There are toilets, but they’re pretty much old-school domain styles (nothing flash).
Driving in, we saw many rabbits playing around the pavilion. There’s a little creek and a path that takes you round to Ouruhia Hall. The domain is located on Chenery Ave, off Marshland Road (see map below).
We visited Ouruhia Domain in January 2017 (summer), and in June 2018 (winter).
